Zero Waste

Income waste which cannot be recycled or used as Solid Recovered Fuel can also be beneficially reused as compost, and as aggregate to cover waste daily at other landfills, or to permentantly close old landfills, and help convert them into parks.
The remaining materials and their percentage of the incoming waste is typically the following:

Organic Materials
Organic materials are primarily food waste and some yard debris, which can be converted into compost, or organic fertilizer, that enriches agricultural soil and gardens.  Organic materials are converted to compost naturally, through a combination of air, water, and temperature, with the material kept under cover to speed the decomposition process, and to minimize odors.   The process normally takes less than two months, and 100% of the resulting compost can be beneficially re-used by local farmers and gardeners.

Inert Materials
The inert materials gathered during the waste separation process include rocks, dirt, heavy debris, and other heavy objects which cannot be recycled.  These materials are often used to help close and re-cultivate landfills (by creating a barrier between the waste and topsoil, to help prevent leachate, or as Alternate Daily Cover (“ADC”) which is used to cover waste dumped in landfills, but which need heavy, daily cover to control birds, dust, and odor.

When a local community elects to use compost and inert materials, our projects are able to not only manage local waste disposal concerns, but are also able to provide beneficial products to the community, and convert old landfills into green parks.
